Referrals and listing credits
Use referrals to invite a friend to The Animal Traders. When your friend signs up with your code and publishes their first qualifying paid listing, you both earn one listing credit.
Before you start
- You need to be signed in.
- Your email must be verified before a referral code can be applied to your account.
- Referral credits are personal. They do not transfer to an organization or another user.
- Referral credits waive the base listing fee for a future paid listing. They do not waive promotion or featured placement add-ons.
Find your referral code
- Open your profile.
- Choose Referrals & credits.
- Copy your code, copy your referral link, scan the QR code, or use Share.
Your referral code is created automatically the first time you open the referrals page.
Invite a friend by email
On the referrals page, enter your friend’s email address and an optional personal note. The Animal Traders sends a one-time invitation with your referral code.
Referral invite emails are not marketing-list subscriptions. The invite includes an unsubscribe link for future referral invitations.
Accept a friend’s referral code
If a friend shared a referral code with you, apply it from your referrals page.
- Sign in to the account you want connected to your friend’s referral.
- Open your profile.
- Choose Referrals & credits.
- Find Have a referral code?
- Enter your friend’s 8-character referral code.
- Choose Apply code.
After the code is accepted, your account is connected to that referrer. When you publish your first qualifying paid listing, you and your friend both earn one listing credit.
You can only accept one referral code. If your account already has a referrer, the referral code form is hidden or the app tells you that your account is already connected. You cannot use your own code.
If your email is not verified yet, the app saves the code and applies it after your email is verified.
When credits are earned
A referral reward is earned when the referred user publishes their first qualifying paid listing.
At that point:
- the referrer earns one listing credit
- the referred user earns one listing credit
- both credits appear on the referrals page
- both users may receive a notification or email, depending on their notification preferences
Publishing more listings later does not create more credits for the same referral.
What counts as a qualifying paid listing?
The first listing must have a paid base listing fee and must not be activated only with an existing credit.
Listings published through a free-listing organization, such as a nonprofit or shelter with free listings, do not trigger referral credits. That activation is already free, so there is no base fee to reward.
Use a listing credit
Referral credits apply to future paid listing activations. Each credit waives the base listing fee for one eligible listing.
Credits do not cover:
- social media promotion
- browse featured spotlight
- other paid add-ons
- past charges
- another user’s or organization’s listings
For how credits appear at checkout and when payment is required, see Listing fees and activation.
For paid listing add-ons, see Social Promotion & Featured Spotlight.
Manage referral notifications
Referral emails and in-app or push notifications follow your notification preferences.
- Open your profile.
- Open notification preferences.
- Choose which referral notifications you want by email, in the app, or by push notification.
