Notifications
Notifications help you keep track of messages, reviews, feedback requests, proposal updates, and listing expiration reminders. On iPhone and Android, you can also receive push notifications when the app is closed or in the background.
Before you start
- You need to be signed in.
- Notifications can appear in the app, by push notification, and by email.
- Your notification preferences control which alerts you receive.
- Push notifications require notification permission on your device.
Open notifications
Use the bell icon to open your notification center.
- Web: use the bell in the top navigation.
- iPhone / Android: use the bell in the app header.
When you have unread notifications, the bell shows a badge.
On iPhone and Android, the app icon can also show a badge for unread notifications.
What notifications include
You may receive notifications for:
- new messages
- reviews received
- seller feedback about you as a buyer
- review requests after a purchase
- reminders to leave a review or buyer feedback
- trait or certification proposal updates
- listing expiration and renewal reminders
Some notifications open the related screen when you tap or click them, such as a conversation, review flow, listing, or profile.
On iPhone and Android, tapping a push notification opens the related screen when possible. For example, a new message push opens the conversation thread.
Manage notifications
Inside the notification center, you can:
- tap or click a notification to open it
- mark all unread notifications as read
- delete one notification
- clear all notifications
- pull to refresh on iPhone or Android
Deleting or clearing notifications removes them from your notification center.
Change notification preferences
You can choose which notifications arrive by email, in the app, or by push notification.
- Open your profile.
- Open Edit Profile on iPhone or Android, or Manage account on web.
- Find Notification Preferences.
- Turn Email notifications on or off.
- Choose Customize notifications to change individual notification types.
Each notification type can have its own email and In-app & push setting.
The In-app & push setting controls both the notification center and push notifications. If you turn it off for a notification type, that type will not appear in your notification center and will not send a push notification to your device.
For profile details, see Update your profile.
Email notifications
Email notifications are separate from in-app and push notifications. If you turn off email notifications, you can still receive in-app and push notifications when In-app & push is enabled.
Email links may open the related screen in the app when you have the app installed. If a link does not open where you expected, see Opening app links.
Listing expiration emails can include Extend your listing or Renew your listing links. Those links open the review step for the listing in manage mode. For details, see Listing expiration and renewal reminders.
Push notifications
On iPhone and Android, push notifications can arrive when the app is in the background or closed.
Push notifications follow your In-app & push preference for each notification type. They also depend on your device settings:
- If your device blocks notifications for The Animal Traders, push notifications will not appear.
- If you turn off In-app & push for a notification type, that type will not send push notifications.
- If you are already viewing a message thread, the app may skip the foreground banner for new messages in that thread because the message is already visible.
To change which notifications can send push alerts, follow the profile instructions for notification preferences.
Troubleshooting
”I do not see the bell”
Confirm that you are signed in. The notification bell is shown for signed-in users.
”I tapped a notification but nothing opened”
The related item may have been deleted or you may not have permission to view it. Try refreshing the app, then open the related message, listing, profile, or review flow directly.
”I turned off email but still see notifications in the app”
Email and in-app notifications are controlled separately. Open Customize notifications and turn off In-app & push for that notification type.
”I turned on in-app notifications but do not receive push”
Confirm that notification permission is enabled for The Animal Traders in your device settings. Push notifications are available only on iPhone and Android app builds, not on web.
”I received a push but the app did not open the right screen”
The related item may have been deleted, or you may be signed in with an account that cannot access it. Open the app directly, confirm you are signed in with the correct account, then try opening the related message, listing, profile, or review flow.Last modified on May 19, 2026
