# Contact confirmation & nonprofit review

> What email and phone confirmation means for users, and how nonprofit organizations are reviewed

# Contact confirmation & nonprofit review

## What does "Email and phone confirmed" mean for a user?

A contact-confirmed user has confirmed their **email address and phone number** through Clerk authentication. The app stores `user_profiles.is_verified` only when both are confirmed.

This is **contact confirmation**, not government ID verification. It does not prove legal identity.

## What does verification mean for an organization?

A verified organization (typically a nonprofit shelter or rescue) has been reviewed and approved by platform administrators after submitting nonprofit documentation. This provides:

* A "Verified Nonprofit" badge on the organization profile
* Increased trust with buyers
* Priority in search results (future feature)

## How do I get my organization verified?

If your organization is a **Nonprofit (shelter)**, you can upload documentation (PDF) in the app:

1. Create the organization as a nonprofit, then upload during the prompt (or upload later from Profile)
2. The upload creates a row in `verification_requests` with status `pending`
3. Platform admins can approve/reject and update the status

  Only **Admin/Manager** roles (and platform admins) can view/download nonprofit verification documents. Staff members may see high-level status, but not access the document itself.

## What documents can I upload for nonprofit verification?

* PDF only
* Max size: 10MB
