# Free first listing

> Claim one free 30-day listing from a First Listing Free link, when you need to use it, and what it covers

# Free first listing

Sellers who open a First Listing Free link (it starts with `theanimaltraders.com/free`) can claim one free 30-day listing. The free listing covers the base listing fee for one listing. It goes on your account the moment you claim it.

## Before you start

* New and existing accounts can claim.
* Your account needs a verified email address and phone number. If the offer page asks you to verify your account, choose **Verify email and phone**, add or verify them, and your free listing is set up as soon as both are confirmed. In the app, do this on theanimaltraders.com: open your account menu and choose **Manage account**.
* Claim on the offer page in your web browser. If you don't have the app yet, the page offers it after your free listing is on your account.

## Claim your free listing

1. Open the First Listing Free link you were sent or saw posted.
2. Choose **Claim your free listing**.
3. Create an account, or sign in if you already have one.
4. The page confirms **Your free listing is ready** and shows the date to use it by.

If you were already signed in, the free listing goes on your account as soon as you choose **Claim your free listing**.

## The rules

* **One free listing per seller.** Each account can claim the offer once.
* **Use it within 14 days of claiming it.** After that the free listing expires.
* **Your listing runs for 30 days.** The free listing pays for one 30-day listing.
* **Optional extras are not included.** The browse featured spotlight is still charged if you add it. A boost uses the listing's own [\$45 boost credit](https://docs.theanimaltraders.com/help/listing-boosts.md#your-boost-credit), and anything above that is charged.
* **New listings only.** It pays for publishing a listing, not for extending or renewing one.
* **One free listing in total.** If your account already has an unused listing credit when you claim, for example from a referral, the offer doesn't add a second one. The page tells you to use the credit you already have.

## Use your free listing

1. Create your listing as usual.
2. On **Review & Activate**, choose **30 days**.
3. The pricing summary shows **Free listing applied** and the date to use it by.
4. Activate the listing. If you didn't add any paid extras, there is nothing to pay.

If you choose 60 or 120 days, the listing is charged at the regular price and the page reminds you to choose 30 days to use the free listing.

If you are working on more than one listing, the free listing goes to the first one you activate. Another listing that showed the free listing then shows the regular price. Check it before you pay.

### Listings for your organization

If you are an owner or admin of a farm or other organization, your free listing can pay for a listing you post for that organization. Free-listing organizations, such as shelters, already list for free.

## See when it expires

Open **Profile** → **Account** and look under **Referrals & credits**. Each credit shows the date to use it by. The same list appears on the referrals page.

## Reminders

* **About 10 days after you claim**, if you haven't used it yet, we email you the date it expires. Turn this off with **Free listing reminders** in your [notification preferences](https://docs.theanimaltraders.com/help/notifications.md).
* **7 and 3 days before your free listing ends**, the usual listing expiration reminder tells you the regular price to keep it up for another 30 days. These follow your listing expiration preference. For details, see [Listing expiration and renewal reminders](https://docs.theanimaltraders.com/help/listing-expiration.md).

The free listing does not renew automatically. When the 30 days end, the listing expires and you can renew it at the regular price.

## When the offer has ended

If the offer has been switched off or has passed its end date, the link shows **This offer has ended — but you can still join**. You can still create an account and list at the regular price.

A free listing you already claimed keeps working until its own expiry date, even after the offer ends.

## Referrals

A listing paid for with the free listing does not count as your first paid listing for a referral. If you joined through a friend's referral code, you both earn your referral credits when you publish your first listing with a paid base fee.
